Nothing keeps feet warm in a frosty winter like knitted socks made from natural wool. These cozy products can be worn for quite a long time without wear, especially if the double heel is foreseen in advance. It is this part that wipes the fastest during operation. To tighten the fabric, needlewomen usually use additional thread or special knitting techniques.

It is necessary

  • - woolen yarn;
  • - 5 stocking needles;
  • - auxiliary thread.

Instructions

Step 1

Cast on 4 knitting needles the required number of loops (according to the circumference of the lower leg). Tie the top of your socks with an elastic band. When you reach the fabric of the heel, transfer the loops to one knitting needle and enter the auxiliary thread into work.

Step 2

To tighten the knitting, you can use strong cotton threads (No. 20-30) or elastic sewing material made of lavsan and nylon fibers. The 9-ply and 12-ply technical thread will make the heel extremely wear resistant, but quite rough. This option is not suitable for children's products, but is good for a long winter holiday (for example, for dressing a fisherman).

Step 3

Attach additional thread to the main thread, leaving a free end of 2-3 cm. After knitting, you gently set the remaining "tail" into the body of the fabric from the inside of the socks.

Step 4

Work straight and back rows of the front surface until you reach the desired heel height. Finish with the front row and start making the cup.

Step 5

Divide all stitches of the last row into 3 parts and string each group on a separate knitting needle. A possible "extra detail" - an odd loop - is always attached to the central part of the cup sheet.

Step 6

Start knitting the heel of the sock with a double thread from the seamy side of the work: loops on the left side of the part; middle of the canvas; the last loop of the center is sewn together with the first loop of the right side of the cup. Now the knitting should be turned over.

Step 7

Continue to double heel from the front row: hem; middle part; the last loop of the middle of the canvas is knitted together with the adjacent side loop. In this case, one front is tied for the back threads. The canvas is turned over again, and the work continues according to the described pattern.

Step 8

When all the side loops of the heel are knitted, a tight cup will form. Cut off the auxiliary thread, leaving a loose “tail” (see step # 2). Further, knitting of the sock continues with only the main yarn.

Step 9

If socks with a heel in two strands seem too rough, artisanal to you, try another method of knitting. After completing the elastic, fold the heel cloth over one knitting needle and knit the first purl row.

Step 10

Then work in the following sequence: the edge loop is removed like the front loop; one front; the next loop is transferred to the working needle untied, with the thread located behind the loop. Continue knitting in this way to the end of the row, then turn the fabric over.

Step 11

Run the next row (purl only) and continue working to form the cup of the piece (see step # 7). On the front rows, repeat step # 10, on the back rows, proceed as usual. You will get a dense fabric with a double knit effect. Make sure that the loops do not turn out to be crossed, then the whole product will look uniform and neat.
