Musketeer's carnival outfit has been popular among adults and children for decades. It looks impressive, and even a novice seamstress can handle it. And in the hands of a master, it can become a real hit at a party or a matinee.
To make the suit fit
The main detail of the musketeer's costume is the cloak. Light and shiny fabrics of blue-blue shades, for example, satin or lining silk, are suitable for its production. The front and back are large rectangles sewn at the shoulders. They need to be cut out according to the size of the shoulders, the back should be slightly longer than the front, and the corners of the hem of the resulting cape must be rounded. Two more rectangles are the sleeves. They do not need to be sewn lengthwise; it is enough to sew one of the short sides to the shoulders of the cloak. The length of the sleeve should be such that it reaches the wrist.
Sections can be trimmed with a bias tape to match the fabric, or vice versa - with a stand-out silver or gold border. Crosses on the front and back are cut out of a white opaque fabric and glued with a hot iron on a double-sided doublerin. At the same time, the shape of the tips of the cross should be similar to lilies - a sign of royal power in France at that time.
The second recognizable detail of the costume is, of course, the hat. If the house has a wide-brimmed felt hat, it is enough to attach a large buckle and a feather to it (they are sold in handicraft and decor stores), otherwise you will have to glue the Whatman hat and paint it black. It is good to use acrylic or paint in a spray can for this - this way the color will be even and shiny. On the sides of the brim, the hat must be pulled to the crown and secured with glue or threads.
Feathers can be cut out of white Whatman paper (the edges are cut into small fringes), or you can simply wind bright tinsel onto the wire.
Beauty is in the details
The Musketeer's carnival costume is complemented by little details. You need to put on a white shirt under the raincoat, and it is better to sew a wide round collar with lace to it. It is spread over the cloak. Regular cuffs should also be disguised as wide and lace.
When decorating an outfit, you can not skimp on details: the Musketeers were famous dandies.
You will also need black trousers, you can sew them specially from velvet and tuck into wide boots. You can also make them from faux leather or suede and wear directly over your regular shoes. A simpler version of the bottom of the suit is wide breeches, similar to short harem pants, white tights and black shoes with a wide buckle or bow.
Since the musketeers were military men, a weapon would fit the suit, for example, a sword from a children's kit, which was painted silver. You can take a toy musket, which gave the name to this branch of the army.
Although a sword or musket adorns the costume, it interferes with having fun at the New Year's ball. Therefore, you can wear them only for the dress contest, and take them off during the dances.
It is difficult to find copies of these antique guns on sale, but they can be glued from cardboard if desired. The main feature of a musket is a very long barrel.
