Every car owner wants to make his car cozier, more comfortable and more beautiful. Many motorists buy modern covers for their car seats made of beautiful and durable materials, spending a lot of money on them, but few people realize that such covers can be sewn on their own. You can make car covers yourself by updating the interior of your car.

Instructions

Step 1

Use durable and reliable materials for sewing covers - it can be both natural fabrics and synthetic ones. Natural fabrics have a lot of advantages - they pass air and moisture well, do not heat up and do not cool in the warm and cold seasons. However, covers made from natural fabrics are short-lived and wear out quickly with frequent use.

Step 2

Synthetic fabrics offer a wider range of colors and are also more durable. At the same time, synthetics do not absorb moisture well, and in hot weather they get very hot. You can use durable tapestry fabric with synthetic fibers as a versatile material for sewing covers, and to keep the car warm in winter, you can make replaceable covers from faux fur. Leather and velor are also good materials.

Step 3

Using a transparent greenhouse film or newspaper, remove the patterns from the car seats by pinning the film to the seats with pins. Trace the contours of the seats with a marker and cut out the pattern, taking into account seam allowances of 1 cm on each side. If you are sewing a cover from a soft fabric, treat it from the inside with doublerin or make a lining of thick synthetics.

Step 4

If you want to slightly change the shape of the seats, insert special rollers between the lining and the front part of the cover. You can also make the cover softer by inserting separately cut thin foam parts between the lining and the front side.

Step 5

Sew the details together, then try the seat cover to see if it fits well. Do not forget to fix the cover on the seat with a special pad, if there is one in the car.

Step 6

Before sewing covers, make sure that the airbags in your car are not installed at the ends of the seat backs. If there are airbags in the backrests, make cuts on the covers in the places of their potential deployment and cover them loosely with cotton threads, which will easily break if the airbags are deployed.
