Format is a characteristic of any file stored on a computer, which speaks of the way information is recorded. Popular audio file formats:.mp3,.wav,.flac, etc. Changing the audio format will affect the recording quality and file size.
Instructions
Step 1
Renaming a file from "Favorite Artist - Song.mp3" to "Favorite Artist - Song.wav" will not affect the format, size, or other characteristics of the file. Therefore, do not try to change the extension by changing only the name.
Step 2
Changing the format is one of the functions of the audio editor program. They are sometimes called sound or music editors. The last definition is not entirely correct, since in such a program you can work not only on music, but also on other sound files: recording poetry, radio broadcasts, etc.
Step 3
Download and install one of these programs: "Adobe Audition", "Sony Sound Forge", "Audacity", etc. If necessary, register the editor on the developer's website by purchasing a key.
Step 4
Open the program and the folder where the sound is stored. Drag the file into the program window. This operation can be replaced with menu commands: "File" - "Open". Then find and open the required file.
Step 5
Make sure the sound is at the very beginning of the track (at 0.00.00). Now through the "File" menu, open the "Export" command, select the "Audio" option. Customize the name and format of the new file, click the "Export" button.
Step 6
You can save the new file under the old name and in the original folder - the computer will see two files with different formats, so there will be no confusion.
