The simplest and most popular decorations for the New Year are snowflakes, which are cut out of paper. If you get creative, you can construct them from colored cabochons or simply knit using patterns for napkins or tablecloths.

Step 1
Snowflakes are delicate and light creatures, so it's best to make them using foil or paper napkins. Tissue paper or plastic wrap will also work. You need to cut out New Year's decorations with thin nail scissors with sharp blades.
Step 2
Take an object with a round or square bottom, it can be a vase or glass. Place it on paper and trace with a pencil. Use scissors to cut out the circles and squares. They will serve as blanks for snowflakes.
Step 3
Fold the circles and squares diagonally once to form a triangle. Fold it in half again and repeat the same action again. You will get an isosceles triangle. Using scissors, cut out small triangles, squares, or rectangles at the base of the triangle. Expanding the blank, you get an openwork snowflake. It can be colored with colored pencils or felt-tip pens.
Step 4
To make knitted snowflakes, purchase threads such as iris and a crochet hook that matches the thickness of the thread. You can choose a pattern for knitting snowflakes in a crochet magazine. Do not break the thread; at the end of the work, tie a loop so that it is convenient to hang the snowflake on the tree. Wash the workpiece in hot water. To starch it, put the pre-cooked starch in warm water and hold for 15 minutes. Do not spare the starch, the snowflake should become dense, as if it had been cut out of cardboard.
Step 5
Spread heavily starched snowflakes on a flat surface. The shape of the snowflakes should be beautiful, if you don't like something, it is better to wet the knitted blank again and lay it out again.
