Not everyone loves the unnatural sound of digital music, be it MP3 or WAV. Many people prefer the analog sound of vinyl records. You can make a turntable for such records yourself.
It is necessary
- Motor with thread (e.g. Scheu-analog Motor Housing)
- Massive plywood blocks 4 and 10 cm thick
- Tonearm (e.g. Rega RB 100)
- A control valve (intake-valve) with a guide piece of the appropriate size and a steel ball 5/16 inches - parts for the motorcycle engine.
- Pencil, compasses.
- Liquid Nails.
- Bolts
Instructions
Step 1
Make blanks for two stands out of massive plywood blocks. One is to support the motor, the other is to support the turntable and pickup (tonearm). The dimensions of the first stand are 20x30 cm, the dimensions of the second are 30x30 cm. The height of both must be at least 10 cm. Attach special wooden legs to the bottoms of the stands (4 flattened cylinders for each of the boxes).
Step 2
Drill a hole in the turntable stand 117 mm from one edge and 33 mm from the adjacent edge. The hole should go through the entire thickness of the plywood block. The diameter of the hole must be such that the valve guide is inserted into it and at the same time fits snugly against the edges. After drilling, sand the holes to remove any roughness. Then, insert the guide piece and glue it with liquid nails. Lower the steel ball into the guide piece.
Step 3
Make a turntable out of a plywood block. Diameter - 30 cm, height - 4 cm. For help, you will have to turn to a carpenter who has a woodworking machine, since the turntable needs to be made perfectly round. Ask the foreman to mark the center of the turntable for you with a pencil. Then attach the control valve (wider end) to the turntable with 8 bolts. The turntable can now be mounted on the box (the valve fits into the guide piece)
Step 4
Attach the pickup to the box on which the turntable is attached, and the motor on the other box. Connect the thread between the motor and the turntable (the thread wraps around the turntable in the middle). Connect the cartridge to the amplifier. The vinyl player is ready.
