Plastic for modeling (polymer clay), which is used to make various decorative items and children's handicrafts, tends to lose its original plasticity over time. Do not throw it away, but try to soften it!
It is necessary
plastic, petroleum jelly, linseed art oil or greasy hand cream
Instructions
Step 1
To begin with, it should be noted that before sculpting, even fresh plastic that you just take out of the package needs to be softened. This is done with your fingers, at the same time giving a certain shape, or with the help of a paste machine. Sometimes the material is preliminarily kept on a warm battery. If it has already dried up, has lost the ability to change shape, cardinal methods will be required. In particular, a special softener is needed. Since the composition of polymer clays is practically the same, a product from any manufacturer is suitable. If there is no special softener, use petroleum jelly, linseed art oil, or greasy hand cream.
Step 2
To work, free a flat surface, put on gloves on your hands and take a couple of minutes to study the instructions for using the softener. The proportions must be indicated on the packaging. In most cases, take one part of the softening compound for five parts of the dried plastic. The ingredients are thoroughly mixed by hand in a separate bowl. Remember: the final result depends on the original hardness of the clay. Therefore, the first time it is better to prepare a small amount of the composition. If you're using petroleum jelly (linseed art oil or hand cream) instead of softener, prepare a glass bowl. Then put a small piece of dried polymer clay in it and, kneading it, add petroleum jelly (another similar tool) drop by drop until the consistency of the mixture suits you.
Step 3
Now the old plastic has become more plastic, has stopped crumbling. Remove the ingredients and dishes from the table, and cover the clay for a while with cling film. Use the material immediately. To restore its plastic properties and faster rolling, periodically lubricate your hands with petroleum jelly.
