Step 1
Take pieces and large pieces of fabric and cut them into narrow strips. Then sew together several strips of patchwork, intertwined. The most common are round or oval carpets, rolled from braids, consisting of intertwined patchwork strips. A different shape of the rug can be given with the help of bundles of small braided braids, bordered with braid. The short pieces of braid will lie on top of one another. Then you get a rectangular carpet.
Step 2
Pin off the ends of the three strips with a safety pin. Place it on a hook, which is securely fastened somewhere at the level of your eyes. Start braiding. Wrap the outer edges of the patchwork strips so that they overlap the folded fabric strips. Start braiding from a pin. Place the strip in your right hand over the center strip of fabric, and the strip from your left hand over the new center strip. Continue to weave while curling the outer edges of the strips inward.
Step 3
When a patchwork strip ends, sew a new strip to it. The seams of the elongated strips must be staggered. At the end of the braiding, secure the free ends with a pin. To make a folded braid rug, sew the first loop of the braid with a carpet needle and strong thread, then the loop next to it. Move back and forth between the braids, twisting them into a spiral. Make sure the braids are flat and the stitches are not very tight, but strong.
Step 4
Continue sewing the braids until you have the correct size rug. To make the edge of the rug smooth, it is necessary in each strip to reduce the last 25 cm to a cone. Finish braiding. Pass the tapered ends through the loop behind them. Secure and hide the open edges.
