A patchwork quilt is a quilted textile product, the front side of which is sewn from variegated multi-colored pieces of fabric. A padding for him is often a synthetic winterizer or batting. Such a blanket can always be found on sale, but it is much more pleasant to sew it with your own hands.

It is necessary

  • - Cotton fabric;
  • - lining fabric;
  • - synthetic winterizer;
  • - mercerized thread;
  • - sewing machine.

Instructions

Step 1

The basis of the blanket is most often made up of sections of patches, sewn according to a single pattern. Before sewing, make a sketch. Experiment with color combinations within the same section. Draw several options for the location of the colored lines on the checkered sheet. Choose the color combination that seems to you the most successful.

Step 2

Having picked up the fabric in accordance with your design, cut 288 square patches measuring 8x8 cm. Fold two pieces together with the right sides and, leaving 0.5 cm for allowances, sew. Fold the seams to one side.

Step 3

Connect the flaps tied in pairs with other pairs so that you get blocks of four. Pin off the center seams or baste to align the edges of the seams before stitching. Craft 72 blocks.

Step 4

Fold the blocks right over and sew a row of eight blocks. Press the seam allowances to the right. Then make the second row in the same way, but direct the allowances to the left. Bring all nine rows together by folding the right sides and matching the seams. Iron the allowances back and forth. Sew the finished rows together.

Step 5

Iron the lining. Lay it face down on a flat, clean surface. Lay a padding polyester or batting on top of the lining. Straighten any bumps and creases. Place the patchwork top over the batting. Smooth out all three layers.

Step 6

Starting in the middle, brush or pin all layers together. In this case, the pins and stitches should be directed to the edges of the blanket, and the distance between them should be about 20 cm.

Step 7

In the center of the bedspread, where the four center pieces converge, sew the first stitch of the tie. To do this, take a needle with mercerized thread and pierce all layers through. Withdraw the needle in the adjacent patch closer to the first roll. Pulling the thread up, leave a 5 cm tip where the needle entered the first time. Do another such stitch, draw out the thread and, leaving a five-centimeter "tail", cut off the excess. Tie the threads in a square knot, pulling the layers of the blanket together. So pull off all the points where the four small patches meet.
