A quilt is a rather intricate, but very cozy, home-made product. Needlewomen have always been held in high esteem, performing the upper part of the thing with a patchwork technique (in the modern world it is called "patchwork"). The blanket can be hand-quilted with cotton wool, an intricate pattern of stitches can be applied to it … However, if you do not possess either such skill or time for painstaking work, this is not a reason to refuse a homemade quilt. Try to sew it from two panels and padding polyester and make a machine stitch.

It is necessary

  • - front and bottom panels;
  • - centimeter;
  • - synthetic winterizer;
  • - decorative border;
  • - threads;
  • - needle;
  • - a sewing machine with a quilting foot;
  • - pencil (chalk, remnant);
  • - scissors.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare two quilt pieces. They can be cut out of two identical cuts, or you can make two completely different parts - a decorative front and a soft bottom. For quilted bedding, seamstresses often use wool blend, satin, silk, chintz and flannel.

Step 2

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the working fabric - it must be ready for washing, because the blanket needs to be looked after regularly. Prepare the canvas for work by wetting and ironing to avoid shrinkage. Pay particular attention to the soft and cozy flannel - it shrinks quite strongly during washing, so it is recommended to steam this material well.

Step 3

Cut out the right side of the blanket. Then you should cut out the padding polyester and the bottom panel - these two parts of the cut must be made larger than the "face" of the product. Leave large allowances (at least 5 cm) around each edge to allow for shrinkage when stitching the blanket.

Step 4

Put the bottom layer of the future product down, put a synthetic winterizer on it and cover the "filling" with a front panel. On the upper fabric, you should first draw lines of stitches with a pencil, chalk or remnant - in the form of a diagonal mesh-lattice.

Step 5

Fasten the layers with pins, hooking the entire thickness of the "pie", and make a hand basting from the center of the panels to the edges - this will save you from constant displacement of the fabric and padding polyester.

Step 6

Begin quilting the blanket with the sewing machine, making sure to use the dedicated quilting foot. This device will feed working fabrics from the top and bottom at the same time. Use the machine in the same sequence as for hand basting - from the middle to the hem.

Step 7

If the sewing machine is not suitable for stitching, you will have to do it manually using a forward and reverse basting stitch.

Step 8

Carefully trim the edge of the quilt using the top layer. Now you just have to process the edges of the product. It is recommended to sew a decorative border around the garment. This will not only fix and veil the cuts and joints of the layers, but also give the blanket a finishing touch.
