Quilts are popular in many countries. If you want to sew a bedspread, quilting is best. In this case, it will retain its shape better, especially if the coverlet is sewn in several layers. As a rule, there are three layers. The upper one is sewn from an elegant fabric, the lower one - from a simple and hygroscopic one, and between them there is a heater. It can be a thin synthetic winterizer or non-woven fabric. The top layer can also be sewn from shreds. It is best to quilt the blanket before you seal the edges.

It is necessary

  • - sewing machine;
  • - needles;
  • - threads;
  • - pencil or soap;
  • - pins;
  • - thick thread or twine;
  • - long rail;
  • - tailor's meter.

Instructions

Step 1

Spread the bottom layer of the bedspread on a large, flat surface. A folding table can be used as a tailor's table, if you have one. Most often, such work has to be done just on the floor. It is better to remove the carpet or carpet and wipe the floor. Lay the bottom panel face down.

Step 2

Carefully lay the insulation on the bottom panel. If the middle layer is cut from a large sheet of padding polyester, pin it along the edges with tailor's pins. It is not necessary to chip around the entire perimeter, you can fasten the corners and midpoints of the sides. Insulation from pieces can be pre-swept by hand, with an overlap. Any seam can be used.

Step 3

Lay the top sheet face up on top of the insulation layer. Align the edges carefully. It is most convenient to use a tailor's meter for this purpose. The surface of the fabric must also be leveled as much as possible.

Step 4

Find the center of the bedspread. This can be done with thick thread or thin rope. Attach the end of the thick thread to the corner of the bedspread and pull it diagonally, then pull the thread in the same way along the other diagonal. Pin these auxiliary threads in several places. You can draw them with soap or pencil. Mark the intersection point. Sew a few stitches in the center. They can then be removed, but you can also leave them, making them an element of the picture.

Step 5

Then the actual stitch begins. It can be done in different ways. The most common are diagonals and horizontal and vertical straight lines. It is very suitable for plain or finely patterned fabrics. First brush the layers diagonally from the center. Then draw vertical and horizontal lines 10-12 cm apart. If you have a long, straight rail, it is most convenient to use. Pin off the edges of the bedspread with tailor's pins. The pins you used to secure the bottom and middle layers can already be pulled out.

Step 6

You can go the other way. If the fabric has a very large geometric pattern, use it. It is still better to quilt the diagonals pi, but you don't have to draw any more lines. Just brush the layers along the lines that are in the picture. In the same way, you can quilt and cover from shreds. In this case, it is very important to get into the seam with which the patches are fastened.

Step 7

Prepare your car. If you have a darning foot, replace the main foot. The foot can be easily removed. Adjust the upper and lower thread tension. As a rule, the minimum upper thread tension is most suitable for a stitch, but there are exceptions. Quilting the cuttings left after cutting.

Step 8

Fold the edges of the bedspread, leaving only the center of the blanket free. Pin the edges with safety pins. Quilting the coverlet along the basting lines, gradually removing the pins and increasing the exposed surface.
