Patchwork quilts were sewn by women of different nations from fabrics left over from sewing clothes, or old things. Consequently, they appeared in everyday life due to poverty and want. However, nowadays, the technique of patchwork or patchwork is treated as an art form, because you can achieve a unique color by harmoniously combining a variety of fabrics.
It is necessary
- - fabrics with different colors and patterns;
- - batting, synthetic winterizer or holofiber;
- - threads;
- - a needle;
- - pins;
- - scissors;
- - sewing machine.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose fabrics with different patterns or solid colors. It is more convenient to work with cotton material, for example, calico, linen or chintz.
Step 2
Cut out squares or strips of equal size for the top side of the blanket. To make the shreds the same, prepare a cardboard template. It is a rectangle with an empty middle. Cut it out one centimeter from the edge. Place the template on the wrong side of the fabric and trace the inside and outside of the rectangle. Cut out the details along the outer contour. Thus, you will get the same rectangles with marked seam allowances.
Step 3
Arrange the shreds in blocks of several strips or squares. Then put the blocks in rows. Play with the fabrics, moving the patches from place to place until you have the combination that you like the most.
Step 4
Sew the shreds together into blocks. Press the seam allowances to one side. Next, grind the blocks into rows, and then them together. Make sure that the rows of the blocks are aligned when sewing. Iron the block seam allowances to make them flat.
Step 5
Cut the underside of the blanket to fit the top of the shreds. The part is slightly larger than the rest, cut out of batting, padding polyester or holofiber. Fold all the parts in the following order: first put the bottom of the blanket with the wrong side up, then a pad of padding polyester, batting or holofiber, and put the piece of shreds on top with the right side up. Pin all the parts together with pins and quilt the blanket by hand or on a sewing machine.
Step 6
Cut along the contour all protruding allowances of the gasket and the lower part close to the cuts of the upper side. Border each cut with a strip of fabric six centimeters wide. The blanket is ready.
