Replacing a bad background in a photo with any other, placing an image of any person on the seashore, in a rainforest or on the streets of a European city, is not difficult at all. You can separate the image from the background using Photoshop in several different ways. Each of these methods is suitable for different photographs, and you can choose the most appropriate option for each specific case.

Instructions

Step 1

The easiest way to separate the image from the background is to use the Magic Wand tool. This method, in addition to its simplicity, has a number of disadvantages - it works correctly only if the image has clear and contrasting edges in relation to a uniform and non-variegated background.

Step 2

Load the photo in Photoshop and duplicate the main layer, or unlock it by double clicking on the icon with the lock. On the toolbar, select "Magic Wand" with the option "Add to selection" and click anywhere in the background. The background disappears, and only the object you want remains in the photo. If some background fragments remain in the photo, click on them separately or erase them with a soft eraser.

Step 3

You can also remove the background with the Eyedropper Tool or the eyedropper. To do this, select the eyedropper tool in the control panel and click on any place in the background, just like you did in the previous method.

Step 4

After that, open the color range menu and adjust the range in the window that opens by moving the slider and making sure that the silhouette of the person you want to cut out from the background becomes completely white, without dark spots. Click OK and the background will be removed.

Step 5

Often, Photoshop users remove the background using the Lasso Tool. In order to apply this tool to the image, select the item Magnetic Lasso Tool on the toolbar, left-click on any point on the border of the silhouette that you want to cut and then begin to gently draw a line along the outline of the silhouette.

Step 6

The line will be drawn to the path by itself, and you will only need to fix it from time to time by clicking on some particularly difficult parts of the path.

Step 7

When the selection is done, right-click on it and select the Layer via cut option. The image of the person will move to a new layer, and you can delete the background layer.
