You can sew a down jacket at home, on your own. Only experienced craftswomen say that this work is "dirty" - too much down and feathers are scattered around the house. But, if you already sew it yourself, then you will know for sure what kind of filler it contains. And you can choose a model for yourself, whatever your heart desires.
It is necessary
- - main fabric;
- - fluff or synthetic winterizer;
- - a fabric similar in type to a covering material;
- - lining fabric (not woolen).
Instructions
Step 1
Before you start sewing a down jacket, you need to figure out what will serve as its stuffing. If you want fluff, then you need to stock up on them in sufficient quantities. But get ready for the hardest part to create the inner layer. For the top of the down jacket, any fabric that has a slight water-repellent effect is suitable. This is necessary so that the very first snow that will melt on your clothes does not penetrate inside and spoil the padding.
Step 2
Take the necessary measurements from the person you are sewing for. And add a couple more three centimeters to them, just so that there is room for placing the lining. According to the resulting measurements, make a pattern for a regular coat, put this pattern on the fabric, cut and sew. The base is ready. Now you can do the filler.
Step 3
In order for the fluff or synthetic winterizer not to creep inside your down jacket rather chaotically, you need to fix them in one place. For this, a fabric that looks like a covering material for beds is well suited. There are no large gaps between the fibers, and therefore the packing will not come out. Distribute how many of these small padding cushions filled with insulation you need to make. Make bags out of this fabric and place fluff or synthetic winterizer in them. Then sew each one neatly.
Step 4
Now we need to do the lining. Cut the lining according to your measurements. Remember that wool is not recommended for lining for down jackets, because it has the ability to pull the padding outward. Now you can deal with the distribution between the main fabric and the lining of the filler. Everything must be done very carefully so that it does not disperse. When you finish the placement work, you need to sweep all the details together, and then sew. Straighten everything again carefully, and your down jacket is ready.
