Step 1

Carefully open the bottom factory seams with a special sharpened razor or small manicure scissors. Remove any old thread trimmings.
Step 3
Open the lining of the down jacket about 15-20 cm from the bottom hem for comfortable working. When trimming the coat with scissors, provide for a fairly wide hem - about 2-2.5 cm in height.
Step 4
Try not to gut the compartment filled with down and feathers. If the cut falls on it, remove the filler from the hem line. Otherwise, when sewing, the fluffs will come out with pins and needles, and the edge will turn out to be artisanal.
Step 5
Form the hem of the bottom of the down jacket from the face fabric by wrapping the top 0.5 cm of the fabric inward.
Step 6
Iron the folds unless the garment manufacturer's tag does not prohibit the use of an iron. Typically, the top of modern down products is made of synthetics such as polyester or blended material. It is permissible to iron these fabrics in medium temperature conditions through a damp gauze.
Step 7
Pin the hem and try to rehearse the machine stitch on the cut piece of fabric. If the needles and threads are incorrectly selected, tightening may occur along the surface of the fabric; the working surface under the presser foot may not slide well
Step 8
Try to sew a straight stitch right over the tracing paper strips, then remove the paper between the stitches. So it is convenient to work with water-repellent synthetic and mixed materials of down jackets, if the device is "naughty".
Step 9
It is recommended to pick up thin pointed needles No. 60 to 100, reinforced threads and sew the down jacket at a low speed.
Step 10
If you have successfully shortened the down coat, all that remains is to trim the lining and sew it to the wrong side of the garment.
