Step 1
If you want to shorten the bodice pattern, then on the patterns of the front and back, they outline a segment of the required size approximately at the middle of the side cut, after which the unnecessary area is folded into a fold or completely cut out, gluing the pattern from the back side. It is also desirable to fix the fold, in order to avoid its displacement when transferring the pattern to the fabric. In the process of work, you need to carefully monitor so that the line indicating the direction of the share thread is not skewed.
Step 2
You can tame a skirt pattern according to the same principle. Of course, the patterns of a straight skirt can also be cut along the bottom edge. But if the skirt is expanded to the bottom or along the lower edge of the model there is a fold, slot or flounce, then the pattern is corrected just below the hip line - a horizontal fold is also laid and fixed, observing the evenness of the shared thread.
Step 3
It's the same with trousers: you can remove the excess length along the bottom, only if the trousers are classic. If the model of trousers implies decorative elements - cuffs, folds, zippers or buttons along the side cut, then it is better to shorten the pattern of the front and back halves below the knee line. In this case, the cut features are preserved. The same rule applies to models of trousers that are narrowed and flared to the bottom.

Often patterns are corrected not only because of the large size. Sometimes you just want to slightly change the style. In this case, before shortening the pattern, think about whether its size will correspond to the model, whether the harmony and integrity of the finished product will not be violated.
Step 5
Models are simple and complex, with or without decorative trim. And, of course, it is easier to work with those with fewer constructive and shaped lines. But don't be afraid to experiment with ready-made patterns. It is quite easy to lengthen or shorten the pattern. The main thing is to do it according to the rules, without affecting the main lines and markings.
