Almost every person has a comfortable and warm down jacket in their winter wardrobe. The better the jacket, the longer it will look like new. Sometimes it becomes necessary to refresh the color of the down jacket or completely change the shade. To do this, you can contact a dry cleaner, but you can try to repaint it yourself.
It is necessary
- - dye composition for textiles;
- - salt.
Instructions
Step 1
Dyeing a natural down jacket is very difficult, and the dyeing results may be the opposite of what you expected. Moreover, having decided to completely change the color of the down jacket, be prepared for the fact that after staining it may become covered with streaks or the paint on the fabric will look different than in the container. It is better, of course, to seek advice from a dry cleaner, although not all of them are ready to take on repainting the down jacket.
Step 2
If you decide to paint the jacket yourself, then thoroughly clean the down jacket from contamination before the procedure. You can give your jacket to the dry cleaner, which has the ability to water clean. If this is not possible, then wash the down jacket by hand or in a washing machine with good powder at a low water temperature (up to 50 ° C).
Step 3
Be very careful when choosing a coloring agent. Do not rush to dye with liquid ink or paints not designed for this type of fabric. Typically, various dyes for textiles are sold in hardware stores, and sometimes in art salons and shops. There are also acrylic paints on sale that can be used to dye outerwear. If you plan to completely change the color of the down jacket, then choose a paint that is more saturated and dense, instead of light tint products. Test the paint on a similar fabric of the same color and texture before applying.
Step 4
In order not to spoil the accessories of the jacket (buckles, decorative elements, metal buttons), remove it before painting. The down jacket can be painted both in a typewriter and by hand. The coloring agent is diluted in 10 liters of water with the addition of sodium chloride (approximately 150 g). Dip the down jacket into this composition for a while. If you paint with your hands, make sure that the entire jacket is submerged in the paint, there are no creases or wrinkled areas, otherwise the paint will not adhere evenly.
Step 5
After staining, carefully hang the down jacket without twisting it. Wait until it is completely dry. However, be prepared for the fact that after the first wash, the paint may be partially washed off, and the down jacket will change its color, possibly not for the better.
