One of the most famous trilogies of the last century, which is so loved by people of all ages. Adventure time travel, friendship, love, support. Marty and Professor Doc Brown conquer the space of time, and they were helped in this by the time machine that Brown had invented for 30 years!
The history of the creation of the trilogy
In 1985 the premiere of the famous film "Back to the Future" took place. The director is the well-known Robert Zemeckis.
The history of the creation of time travel began in 1980, when Zemeckis's film "Used Cars" with Kurt Russell was released. The director also wrote the script for the film, co-written by his friend Bob Gale. The film performed poorly at the box office. After Gail goes to visit her parents and watching children's albums, where he sees his father still young, thinks: “How would I communicate with my father if we studied together?”. After returning to Hollywood, Gale reveals her thoughts to Zemeckis, and they decide to go to Columbia Pictures and sign an agreement to write a screenplay for a time travel movie.
It was decided that the plot would take place in the 50s, because, according to Zemeckis, the youth of that time played a big role in popular culture.
In the beginning, the time machine was conceived as a laser installation, where a special beam sent the heroes to conquer the temporary expanses. Then they wanted to use a conventional refrigerator instead of a beam (using nuclear energy, a traveler climbed into a refrigerator, which needed to be located near a nuclear explosion, and time travel took place). But, fortunately, the idea was abandoned. The famous "DeLorean" came to the head of the producer and screenwriter.
As a result, the studio failed to sell the story, and over the course of four years the plot of the picture was rejected 40 times.
Michael Douglas came to the rescue, who chose Zemeckis as the producer of the adventure film "Romance with a Stone". The film grossed over $ 116 million. Following the success, Spielberg agreed to take on the Back to the Future project in collaboration with Universal Studios.
They wanted to call the future trilogy "Astronaut from Pluto", but the idea was abandoned.
Plot of the film
Dr. Emmett Brown has been inventing his car for about 30 years, and as a result, it was published in 1985 after installing an energy fluxuator in a DeLorean DMC-12 car. Marty McFly, a longtime friend of the doctor and a high school student, gets acquainted with the car, but they are attacked by terrorists. Doc is killed, and Marty was able to escape in 1955. In the end, Marty doesn't know how to get back, because the machine needs plutonium to run. The hero also endangers his birth: he interferes with the meeting of his parents in the past. Marty finds Emmett Brown and wants to solve problems with his help: to save the doctor in the future. And you also need to go back in time when the restless Biff Tannen is going against him. Of course, Marty is doing well.
Then comes the sequel to the film: "Back to the Future 2" in 1989. Doc is saved, Marty returns to the future. Jennifer, the friend of the protagonist, learns about the time machine and they travel to 2015. There, the heroes want to save their future children from going to prison. Meanwhile, the old Biff Tannen decides to use the car for his own selfish purposes. He hijacks her, radically changing her life. Biff himself becomes a rich man, Doc is declared insane, and Marty's father is killed. Doc and Marty naturally try to stop him, the mission is completed successfully. They hit again in 1955, but lightning strikes the car and Doc moves to 1885.
"Back to the Future 3" is becoming a welcome event for fans of the first two parts of the great film. The picture comes out in 1990. In 1955, Marty tries to find the car left by Doc and learns that he was killed by Bufford Tannen over a $ 80 debt. Marty decides to travel to 1885 to save his comrade. There he learns that Doc has fallen in love with his teacher Clara Clayton. The return home is in jeopardy as the time machine is attacked by the Indians and left without fuel. But it has not yet been invented. This is followed by the famous scene where the car is put on the rails and it is decided to accelerate ahead of the rushing train.
The plot of the film is very often mentioned in modern famous cartoons: The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, Futurama, Family Guy, etc.
Cast
It may seem that a lot of bright actors, at that point in time, auditioned for the role of Marty. But this is not so, Michael J. Fox was taken immediately after his performance in the then popular TV series "Family Ties". But the film's producer refused to lose the star. Spielberg decided to look for other actors. In the beginning, he settled on C Thomas Howell, known for the films "The Hitcher" and "Outcasts", then on Ralph Machio, John Cusack and Eric Stolz. Johnny Depp did not pass by the role of Marty, but he was turned down due to the fact that the actor was simply not remembered.
Filming lasted two weeks with the participation of Stolz, but soon they decided to simply fire him. The reason was that Stolz, according to Zemeckis, evoked a sense of drama, and the writers needed humor. No matter how hard he tried, he was fired with a loss of $ 3 million to select a new actor. Fox managed to beat off the producers of the series "Family Ties" on the condition that filming the series would be a priority for him.
Doc Emmett Brown. It wasn't Christopher Lloyd who auditioned for the role in the beginning. The lead was to be John Lithgow, who in 1984 played the insane genius in The Adventure of Bakaroo Banzai in the Third Dimension. But the actor was very busy, so he refused to shoot. Producer Neil Canton recalls that Christopher Lloyd, who initially refused the film, but gave the go-ahead after reading the script, starred with John. The film crew was already beginning to consider for the role of Jeff Goldblum.
You can see that Doc is very similar to Einstein in his magnificent image. This is so, it was this scientist and conductor Leopold Stokowski who inspired the actor.
The father of Marty McFly (George McFly) was Crispin Glover, who sunk into Zemeckis' soul by improvising perfectly at the audition. The hand that shakes, lethargy - these features were invented by the actor on the go.
Marty McFly's mother - Lorraine McFly was Leah Thompson. Eric Stolz influenced this by the fact that while watching his role in the film "Wild Life", the writers noticed the actress.
The main villain, Biff Tannen, was approved after the main character was changed. In the beginning, they wanted to take Tim Robbins ("The Shawshank Redemption"), but in the end he was bypassed by Thomas Wilson. The history of Biff's surname comes down to the fact that he received it in honor of one of the group of bosses of the studio "Universal". He rejected the Used Cars script as he considered it an indicator of anti-Semitism, even though Gale was Jewish.
The fate of the sequel to the trilogy
After the film, from 1991 to 1992, the television project Back to the Future: An Animated Series was released. It consisted of 26 episodes. The main actors voiced their characters. The picture was educational in nature, as it told about natural phenomena and physics.
In 2010, a quest-continuation from the studio "Teltale Games" was published, consisting of five episodes. Christopher Lloyd and Claudia Wells voiced their characters. Fox appears as a guest star in the season finale "Outatime".
For 25 years, games dedicated to the trilogy have been released on various consoles. People could even install them on computers. The plot of the games was based on the script of the films without adding new ideas. But the producers did not like the quality and feature of the games at all.
The filming of the legendary film was one of the key moments for the future of the famous cast. Millions of fans to this day admire the trilogy: its comfort, humor, lightness and interesting plot.
