It should be noted that in the practice of aircraft modeling, helicopter models with a single-rotor scheme are most widely used. Consider the simplest model of a helicopter called a fly. In fact, it is not even a helicopter, but rather a "flying propeller". This model only resembles a prototype by the principle of flight, however, the "fly" very clearly shows how a real helicopter is kept in the air, therefore it is very valuable for air amateurs.

Step 2

"Fly" consists of two parts: a propeller and a rod. Start by making a screw. From softwood, make a rectangular bar 160x25x8 mm. You can take linden or alder. On the wide side of the block, draw two mutually perpendicular center lines, and at the point of their intersection, drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm. Place the screw template on top, trace both blades with a pencil.

Step 3

Use a knife to cut off excess pieces of wood. File the block so that there are no irregularities.

Step 4

Next, draw a side view of the screw on the block. Depart from the center by 1/3 of the radius, mark with dots at the ends from the upper plane with a thickness of 3 mm. Connect the dots. Cut off excess areas.

Step 5

The blades of the "fly" should be thin. In symmetrical sections, they must have the same angle of inclination and the same shape. Remarkably, the slope should decrease towards the end of the blades. The weight of the blades must of course be the same, which is achieved by careful processing, which is best done several times. The blades can be sanded with sandpaper.

Step 6

Then shave off the rod with a diameter of 6-5 mm. Sharpen one end of it a little and insert it into the screw hole. It should fit tightly and be of a comfortable length for the arms. Most often, the rod is made 1.5 times the diameter of the screw.

Step 7

The work is completed, proceed to the tests. To do this, place the rod in a vertical position by holding it between your palms. Make it spin quickly with your palms. Then unclench your hands, and the screw will rush upward under the influence of the lifting force. If at the moment of launch the axis of rotation is slightly tilted, the "fly" will fly in the given direction.
