Polyfoam is a very light material, besides, it practically does not absorb water. Foam boats float great as long as they don't have an overly heavy top. You can make such a boat using an ordinary kitchen knife.
It is necessary
- - a piece of thick foam;
- - wooden stick for the mast;
- - pieces of light fabric for sails;
- - matches;
- - thick cotton threads;
- - long nail;
- - universal glue or pieces of scotch tape;
- - a sharp knife;
- - sandpaper;
- - paper;
- - ball pen.
Instructions
Step 1
It is better to make a foam boat flat-bottomed, then it will turn over less often. The boat should be symmetrical, so first make a piece of paper. Fold the sheet in half and draw the outline of half of the boat. Cut out a pattern.
Step 2
Trace the mold over a piece of thick Styrofoam. Such material is often used for packaging large-sized items. It is convenient to circle the pattern with a ballpoint pen.
Step 3
Cut the boat out along the contour with a sharp kitchen knife or a shoemaker's knife. The blade should run perpendicular to the plane of the foam. Sand the sections with sandpaper.
Step 4
If you intend to put sailors in your boat, gouge the middle to a shallow depth. The sides should be the same thickness and as even as possible. Also sand the recess with sandpaper.
Step 5
Make a hole for the mast approximately in the middle of the boat. You can cut it with the same knife. The hole must not be through. Make a mast. Its height should not be more than the length of the vessel, otherwise the boat will turn over. Glue the mast with all-purpose glue or double-sided tape. The second option is preferable because the glue can melt the foam.
Step 6
Try your boat afloat. If it is stable, make sails - rectangular triangles from thin shreds. Sew them on all three sides so that you can insert the threads into the resulting drawstrings. Thread thick cotton or linen threads through the hypotenuse and the leg of each triangle that will run perpendicular to the mast from below.
Step 7
Glue 2 matches for "ropes" on the bow and stern. To better hold the threads, grind 2 notches on the mast, in the upper part and in the lower one. Set sail. Make a pennant out of a piece, tie it to the top of the mast - and you can send your ship sailing.
