Instructions

Step 1

If you decide to sculpt a nesting doll from clay, take the sculpted clay and a specially made cardboard template with which you will get smooth sides of the nesting doll. Place the clay product on the potter's wheel, attach a cardboard template to the workpiece and start turning the circle. Thus, the irregularities will be smoothed out with a template, and you will only have to fill in the excess cavities with clay.

Step 2

In the same way, you can make a nesting doll from simple or sculptural plasticine. For the convenience of painting finished nesting dolls, use talcum powder or starch. Apply the powder to clay or plasticine, and then cover the matryoshka with water-based paint. Apply acrylic painting on top of the water-based paint.

Step 3

Also, the matryoshka can be made using the papier-mâché technique. Take soft paper - newsprint or wrapping paper - and rip it into small pieces. Then take an object that resembles a matryoshka doll - a vase or a jug - and start pasting over the shape with pieces of paper, smearing them with PVA glue. Apply several layers of paper, covering each layer with glue. Wait until the glue is completely dry, then carefully remove the papier-mâché from the mold. To simplify the task, you can cut the workpiece in two and then glue them together. Smooth the surface of the matryoshka with putty and prime it, and then sand with fine sandpaper.

Step 4

Another way to make a nesting doll is to make it on a glass jar. Take a glass jar of a suitable size and close it with a lid. Shape the sides and head of the matryoshka around the jar, and then add its shapes using the papier-mâché technique described above. Lubricate the matryoshka mold with Vaseline so that the finished dry paper lags well behind the mold. Cover the finished nesting doll with varnish.
