The lightsaber is inextricably linked to the fantasy world of the Jedi Knights and their opponents, the Sith. Sword making is one of the most challenging tasks for aspiring Jedi. You can try to fulfill it in reality.

Instructions

Step 1

Buy a regular flashlight from a store or market that runs on two or three "A" batteries. Use this flashlight as a lightsaber hilt, and will also serve as a power source for future designs. The body of the flashlight should be steel, the size depends on the desired size of the lightsaber itself and the size of your hand, the color should match the color of the luminous element of the future sword.

Step 2

Order cold neon, also known as flexible neon, from your online store or specialty store. This product is used as decorative lighting and is an electroluminescent cord. The cost of flexible neon is on average 300 rubles per 1 meter. Cool neon allows you to achieve a bright and constant glow, evenly distributed along the entire length of the cord, while consuming fairly low powers.

Step 3

Don't confuse cool neon with duralight, a chain of LEDs under the plastic. Choose cool neon depending on personal preference: the color of the glow does not affect the operation of the structure, the thickness should be chosen as large as possible, ideally up to 10 mm, the length of the cord depends on the desired size of the lightsaber.

Step 4

Purchase a power supply unit (inverter). For the glow of the cord (ignition of an electroluminescent substance), a high-frequency current is required, which is supplied through a power supply unit with an output frequency of up to 2000 Hz and a voltage of 110V. The power supply you need runs on 1.5V batteries (there are also 12V inverters) and is most often used to demonstrate and check the glow of cold neon.

Step 5

Attach the power supply to the cold neon and attach it to the flashlight - the hilt of the lightsaber. If the lightsaber is working and the cool neon is glowing, then your sword is ready. For structural reliability, carefully fasten all parts and insulate the connections.
