It is clear that making a real lightsaber that can be used as a weapon is impossible at home. But making a toy that imitates such a sword in its appearance is not difficult at all. Children, and even some adults, are happy to use such swords as props for games and theatrical performances.

It is necessary

  • - Hard plastic pencil case;
  • - Light-emitting diode;
  • - battery compartment for three AA or AAA cells;
  • - three batteries of the corresponding type;
  • - 50 Ohm resistor, 0.25 W;
  • - toggle switch;
  • - drill;
  • - glue;
  • - soldering iron, neutral flux and solder;
  • - glue gun and rods to it, one of which must be transparent and round;
  • - tweezers.

Instructions

Step 1

Drill two holes in a hard plastic pencil case: for a toggle switch and a rod that simulates a sword blade. The diameters of these holes depend on the fit dimensions of the corresponding parts. The hole for the rod is best drilled at the end of the pencil case, for the toggle switch - on the side wall.

Step 2

Fix the toggle switch in the hole provided for it. To do this, use the nuts and washers supplied with it.

Step 3

Insert the stick for the glue gun into the hole provided for it, so that most of it is outside, but at the same time, the part of it that is inside the case is long enough to secure it securely. Insert another stick into the glue gun itself, which will be a consumable. Using it, firmly secure the rod that simulates the blade of the sword.

Step 4

Glue the battery compartment to an empty spot on the pencil case.

Step 5

Connect the battery compartment, toggle switch, resistor and LED in series. Observe the polarity when connecting the LED. After inserting the batteries into the compartment and turning on the toggle switch, make sure that the LED is on.

Step 6

De-energize the LED, as in the next step you will have to short-circuit its leads with tweezers. Taking the LED with tweezers by the leads, press it with a lens to the end of the rod that simulates a sword, which is inside the pencil case. Quickly, so that the LED does not have time to deteriorate from heat, fix it using a glue gun.

Step 7

When the glue has cooled, turn on the power again to make sure the LED hasn't deteriorated from heat.

Step 8

Close the pencil case. The toy is ready to use. Turn off the game during breaks to avoid wasting battery power.

Step 9

Make a few more similar lightsabers for the rest of the game or theatrical performance in the amount they need.
