The first, second and third strings are of different thicknesses, the fourth, fifth and sixth are wrapped in metal wire, usually copper. Sometimes silver or brass is used for winding. In stores, you can find high-density synthetic strings. The material for their manufacture is a carbon fiber line. They are thinner than nylon, give a brighter sound, but are more expensive.

In music stores, you can also find nylon strings on a steel cable. The first three strings are wrapped in nylon, the bass strings are wrapped in silver-plated copper wire. These strings are sometimes used by professionals. The price is quite high, although the strings are durable, easy to tune, and hardly affected by temperature. Syntal strings have been gaining popularity in recent years. Their main advantage is that they keep the formation excellently and do not descend for several months. In addition, they are soft but give a bright sound.

It depends on the material and type of winding. The most popular are steel strings on a monolithic base. The first three strings, as well as the cores of the rest, are made of high strength steel. The winding is made of copper or phosphor bronze. Varieties of strings on a monolithic base - strings with different types of winding, that is, round or flat.

Recently, material combinations have been increasingly used to make strings. For example, there are two types of steel strings in a synthetic sheath. In one case, a plastic sheath is put on the wire from which the string is made. Outwardly, such strings are somewhat reminiscent of colored wire. The second type is strings, in which another layer of Teflon is applied over the copper or brass winding. Mixed strings are more durable than metal strings, they are less susceptible to negative factors (for example, sweat), but inevitably lose overtones, which means their sound is duller.
