It so happened that you needed to send an audio file by email, and you found that its size is clearly approaching the maximum possible for mail attachments on the service through which you send mail. In such a situation, a rather simple way out is possible: convert the file to mp3 format and reduce the bitrate.

It is necessary

  • - Total Audio Converter program;
  • - audio file.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the file you want to compress in a converter program. To do this, left-click on the folder containing this file on the left side of the program window. The contents of the folder will open on the right side of the window. Left-click on the file name and select it. If you are going to compress multiple files from an open folder, check the checkboxes to the left of the file names.

Step 2

Click on the mp3 button below the main menu. After that, the program will open a window of a step-by-step wizard for setting conversion parameters.

Step 3

In the File Name field, enter the name under which the compressed file will be saved and specify the location on your computer where it will be saved. The file name can be entered directly into the File Name line. You can save the file under the old name, adding a few characters to it so that you can understand that this is a compressed file without looking at its properties. Click on the folder icon to the right of the line with the file name in order to specify the folder in which the compressed file will be saved. Select the folder in the window that opens and click on the OK button. Click the Next button at the bottom of the setup wizard window.

Step 4

Select the audio sampling rate by clicking on the circle next to the selected value. The lower the number, the smaller the resulting file will be. Click the Next button.

Step 5

Select the stereo or mono mode of the compressed file by clicking on one of the items in the list. Naturally, the size of a mono file will be much smaller than that of a stereo sound file.

Step 6

Specify the bitrate of the saved file by choosing a value from the drop-down list. This value must be less than the bitrate of the original file. You can see information about the bitrate of the source at the bottom of the main program window in the Info field. If the settings wizard window obstructs this field, drag this window to the side with the mouse. Click the Next button.

Step 7

In the window that opens, check the compression settings and start the conversion by clicking the Finish button. As soon as the conversion is over, a folder window will open where the compressed file was saved.
