An elastic band is one of the most important elements of many knitting products. Most garments are not complete without this simple but functional knit pattern. It can serve as a constricting part of the product or create the main canvas. Experienced needlewomen have their own secrets to make an elastic band especially neat and easy to use.

It is necessary

  • - white thick thread;
  • - red thin thread;
  • - needles No. 2, 5 and 2.

Instructions

Step 1

Practice knitting elastic in different ways and evaluate the resulting patterns. Work on straight knitting needles, alternating between the knit and purl stitches. You will get the so-called 1x1 gum. Depending on the number of loops involved in the work, the elastic fabric can be called 2x2 (2 front - two purl); 3x1 (3 facial and 1 purl), etc.

Step 2

Some products, with a simple alternation of a certain number of front and back loops, look quite impressive and without pretentious patterns. For example, you can make a skirt or a turtleneck from a 3x1 or 4x1 elastic band - things will turn out beautiful, they will stretch in two directions and lie in a sticky shape.

Step 3

Try knitting the elastic with the auxiliary yarn for an especially flat and elastic hem. To do this, you will need a basic white yarn and a thinner thread in a bright contrasting color to make it catch your eye (for example, red). Take a pair of straight knitting needles # 2, 5 and another pair of # 2.

Step 4

From the red threads on the needles number 2, dial half the number of loops that is necessary to create the canvas. For example, instead of 20 loops, there should be only a dozen on the knitting needles.

Step 5

Tackle the first row of elastic knit edge by introducing white thread. First remove the hem buttonhole, then purl. This is followed by: yarn over, purl loop and yarn over again.

Step 6

Finish the row with the pattern. If an even number of loops is involved in the work, then the yarn and the hem loop will be the final ones, but if it is odd, then the yarn, purl and edge loop.

Step 7

Perform the second row of knitting in a pattern: knit the lower purl loops with the front loops, and remove the yarns untied, as if they were ordinary purl loops. In this case, the working thread should be located only in front of the loop!

Step 8

Repeat knitting of the third and fourth rows, following the example of the first and second, until you get a strip of hollow double fabric. Now you need to put into operation knitting needles No. 2, 5 and knit a 1x1 elastic band from the fifth row.

Step 9

When the knitted stretch fabric is finished, you can gently pull out the auxiliary thread. Dissolve the open, extended loops along the edge of the work - and in front of you is a perfectly flat, well-stretched edge of the knitted elastic band.
