The image of a lion can be a real challenge for those who take their first steps in drawing. Drawing the structure of the coat, luxurious mane and expressive muzzle is a rather difficult job. Try it with pastels - soft crayons perfectly convey the softness of the transition of tones of lion's hair.
It is necessary
- - the tablet;
- - drawing paper;
- - pencil;
- - eraser;
- - a set of pastels;
- - paper napkins;
- - cotton pads;
- - fixer or hairspray.
Instructions
Step 1
Strengthen a piece of loose drawing paper on a tablet. Consider the composition of the drawing. You can sketch the figure of the king of beasts from a postcard or photograph, or come up with your own composition. Try drawing a reclining lion against a bright blue African sky.
Step 2
Draw the figure of a lion. It is not necessary to draw it in detail - it is enough to outline the back of the animal and the head with a spectacular mane. All the rest will be hidden by the grass of the savannah. Erase the extra pencil lines and grab the pastels.
Step 3
Start by working on the background. Apply frequent strokes of blue and light blue crayons alternately, shading the upper part of the drawing. Just below the level of the back of the recumbent lion, apply greenish-brown strokes. Blend the lines with a paper napkin, achieving a blurry tone and a smooth transition of colors.
Step 4
Start drawing a lion. Cover the body of the animal with small strokes of beige pastels. Add some golden yellow color and blend the tone until smooth using a cotton pad. Use gray-brown chalk to mark the shadow on the bent legs.
Step 5
Use dark gray pastels to outline the contours of the muzzle. Black out the nose, eyes and mouth. Paint over the convex part of the muzzle with white chalk, and light beige for the forehead and cheeks. Take a gray-brown crayon and draw longitudinal lines from the eyes to the flaps. Place the shadow along the bridge of the nose. Blend the lines with a cotton pad.
Step 6
Draw a mane with a small gray-brown color. Use long, loose strokes from top to bottom to simulate a lush, thick coat. Take white and beige crayons and consistently draw lines over the gray-brown tone. With the tip of a paper napkin, repeat the movements of the chalk, rubbing the lines until the shades merge.
Step 7
On top of the shaded color, add additional white strokes to create a sun glare effect on the coat. Use a corner of black chalk to emphasize the shadows on the face and mane. With gray and beige pastels, paint long stalks of dry grass to simulate a savannah landscape.
Step 8
Cover the finished drawing with a pastel fixer or spray it with regular hairspray - this will protect the crayons from shedding and preserve the brightness of the picture.
