Sew beautiful and practical crib linens. You can choose a color that ideally suits the interior of the nursery, the texture of the fabric, as well as the size of things. Sewing skills are especially needed when making linen for custom cribs.

Choose the right fabric. It should be soft, firm, but not scratching the skin. Too loose materials are short-lived, and hard ones are uncomfortable for the baby. Calico, percale, cotton satin will suit you. Warm and soft flannel is indispensable for cold weather. Fabrics with synthetic fibers, such as polycotton, look smart but can irritate baby's skin.

Sewing children's underwear is best made of fabrics of calm colors, monochromatic or printed. A bed set made of companion fabrics, sustained in the same range, looks very nice. For example, the sheet might be solid, while the duvet cover and pillowcase might be striped or embellished with floral prints.

If the crib has a canopy, choose a fabric that matches it in color and texture.

For a crib, you will need a sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase. To sew a standard set, buy a piece of fabric with a width of 2, 2 and a length of 2.5 m. In addition to the fabric, you need a zipper for the duvet cover and an elastic band, which will need to be pulled into the edge of the sheet. Choose threads that are dense, but not too thick, otherwise the seams will turn out to be rough.

Wash the fabric in hot water, dry and iron it before sewing. Then start cutting. Fold the fabric in half. For a baby blanket measuring 140 x 110 cm, measure the length of 143 cm, taking into account the seam allowances. To sew the sheet, cut out a 160 x 110 cm rectangle. Cut out a pillowcase from the rest of the fabric. Focus on the size of the pillow, adding 1.5 cm to the seams. Remember to leave a wide hem, at least a quarter of the length of the pillow.

Sew two sets of the same color at once. If you need to replace a stained sheet or pillowcase, there is no need to choose a suitable duvet cover, the bed will always look smart and tidy.

Start sewing with a duvet cover. Machine the side and top seams. In the lower part you need to insert a zipper lock. Baste or pin, then machine stitch. Overlock or zigzag the edges of the duvet cover. The seams are too thick and not too suitable for baby's underwear. Plastic buttons can be used instead of a zipper. Sew the button halves to the hemmed edges. For a blanket, you need 3-4 pairs of buttons.

The most convenient option for a crib is a sheet with an elastic band. It fits snugly around the mattress, does not slip or get lost. Before sewing such a sheet, fold the fabric in four and in the corner where the free edges will gather, cut out a 19 x 19 cm square. Spread the fabric and sweep the cut edges so that you get the corners. Try on the blank on the mattress. If the size fits, sew seams over the basting. Hem down the edges, leaving a drawstring for the elastic. Pin it in with a double pin.

Fold the pillowcase right sides inward, shifting the fabric by the width of the hem. Then tuck the fold over the narrow part of the pillowcase, right side to back. Machine seams and hem the edges. If desired, you can sew a zipper into the sidewall or attach plastic buttons that fix the pillow.
