Making decorative pillowcases is a fun activity that allows you to show your creative imagination and enliven the interior. Of course, having looked into the supermarket, you can provide yourself and all your friends with such pillowcases, however, things made with your own hands give the house a very special feeling of comfort.
It is necessary
- - the cloth;
- - tailor's chalk;
- - pins;
- - paper for patterns;
- - narrow textile fastener
- - sewing machine;
- - threads of different colors.
Instructions
Step 1
Build a pattern for the future pillowcase. To do this, measure the length and width of the pillow and add two centimeters to each result. Such an increase in size is necessary for the pillow to fit into the pillowcase without much effort. Draw a rectangle with the resulting dimensions on any not very thick paper.
Step 2
Lay out the fabric from which you will sew the pillowcase, wrong side up, pin the pattern to it, and circle it with a sharp remnant, chalk, or a soft, simple pencil. Add cm seam allowances on all sides except the bottom. Add a three-centimeter allowance at the bottom.
Step 3
Chip off the pattern and make the second piece of the pillowcase in the same way. Cut out both halves and overlock the sections.
Step 4
Until the parts are connected, you can decorate the side of the pillowcase, which will be the top, with embroidery or applique. An applique made of fabric looks good, fastened along the edge with a manual buttonhole seam with tightly packed stitches. In order to complete this finish, cut out the applique details from the fabric and baste them to the upper half of the future pillowcase. Place the basting seam no further than a centimeter from the edge of the appliqué.
Step 5
Sew a buttonhole stitch over the edge of the applique, using the same stitch to join the decorative trim to the pillowcase. For such an operation, it is best to use thick, brightly colored threads.
Step 6
Fold both pillowcase halves right sides together, sweep them together and sew on the sides and top. Remove the basting.
Step 7
Fold the bottom of the pillowcase down a centimeter to the wrong side and press the hem down. Fold in the ironed side of the pillowcase two more centimeters and sew the folded edge on the wrong side, stepping back half a centimeter from the hem edge.
Step 8
Turn the pillowcase inside out and sew a narrow textile fastener into the hem. To do this, sew one half of the clasp to the bottom edge of the wrong side of the top half of the pillowcase. Sew the other half of the clasp to the right side of the bottom edge of the bottom half of the pillowcase. The pillowcase is ready, it remains to wash it and put it on the pillow.
