A beautiful pillowcase can decorate your home, become an attractive interior element and serve as an excellent decorative pillow frame. Pillowcases for these pillows are especially good when they are hand-sewn - handicraft makes the atmosphere of your home even more attractive, cozy and unusual. In this article, you will learn how to sew a pillowcase properly.
Instructions
Step 1
Calculate the size of the pillow you are going to sew the pillowcase on. Based on these dimensions, add 2.5 cm on all four sides to cut the pillowcase. Choose the right fabric in the right size and start cutting.
Step 2
Determine which part should be upper and which lower, purl. Cut a long hole on the wrong side and sew a zipper into it. The upper part should be slightly longer than the lower one, by about 4 cm, but match it in width.
Step 3
Cut additional strips 10-15 cm wide from the desired fabric. From these stripes, you will make ruffles and sew them into your pillowcase. The length of the ruffles should be longer than the perimeter of the pillowcase - cut them out with a margin for pleating.
Step 4
Iron the fringe stripes and sew into a common ring. Determine where the corners of the pillowcase will be and pin the corners of the assembly with pins. Then sew the frill on a typewriter, either by hand or with a special seam, making a neat pleating to keep the frill fluffy.
Step 5
Take the top piece of the pillowcase, fold it right sides together with the frill, and start attaching the frill to the seamy side on a typewriter. Then stitch the bottom of the pillowcase, which has already been sewn into the zipper, to the ruffled top.
Step 6
Your pillowcase is ready - you can decorate it with appliques, tassels and embroidery. Slip a pillowcase over your prepared pillow and decorate your favorite sofa or armchair.
