Perhaps you think that a lot of bedding is sold in stores, but try to sew something with your own hands … And maybe you will understand how exciting it is. Start with a pillowcase as a very simple piece.

What fabric to choose for sewing a pillowcase

For bedding, I recommend choosing natural cotton fabrics. Chintz, satin, linen are perfect for sewing pillowcases.

Cut a simple pillowcase with a flap

The diagram shows an example of a pattern of a pillowcase on a pillow measuring 70 by 70 cm with an increase in the seam of 3 cm on each side, which is two squares, and a flap so that the pillow does not slip out in the absence of a fastener.

If your pillow is of a different size, adjust the size of the pattern accordingly (the most common sizes are 70x70, 60x60, 50x70 cm).

You can cut both along and across the lobar thread.

How to sew a pillowcase

Hem the short side of the pillowcase (section AB). This will be the open edge of the valve. Also hem the opposite side - the edge of the main body of the pillowcase.

Fold the pillowcase blank in two folds so that the front is outside. The valve with a length of 25 cm should be on the inside.

Sew on the right side of the pillowcase (straight lines CE and DF), then turn the product inside out and sew the same two seams from the wrong side.

I want to note that you can sew a pillowcase with one seam, from the inside out, but my experience has shown that the above method is the most practical.

To make your pillowcase look festive, choose colorful fabrics or sew a pillowcase from companion fabrics. You can also decorate it with ready-made lace, braid, fabric or ribbon flounce.
