Roman blinds are the most economical type in terms of fabric consumption. They can be appropriate in any interior and on a window of any shape. Instructions
Step 1
Start by choosing your material. The drawing should correspond to the strict form of the Roman shade. Smoothly dyed fabrics, with geometric or small floral patterns, striped or checked fabrics, are best. Since the folded Roman shade should not sag, choose a material that is hard enough: coarse cotton, heavy wool, muslin, taffeta.
Step 2
Cut out a piece of fabric. Add 10 cm to the width for the side seams, to the length - 5 cm for the bottom hem plus 25 cm for fastening to the eaves. Cut the lining fabric for Roman blinds identically.
Step 3
Place the material face down. Iron 5 cm edges on all sides. Hem the corners with an envelope. Hand hem the folded edges using a blind hem. Work the lining in the same way, but do a 6 cm hem. Place it inside out on the inside of the main curtain so that the edges of the main fabric protrude 1 cm on all sides. Pin together.
Step 4
Sewing Roman shades without drawstrings will not work. Cut out six strips 12 cm wide and equal to the finished piece plus 4 cm long. Fold them along the inside out. One side should protrude 1.5 cm. Tuck the protruding edge again and sew (see Fig. 1). Fold one short edge and sew tight, leave the other open. Repeat for each drawstring (see fig. 2).
Step 5
At the next stage of the work on the manufacture of Roman blinds, mark with a pencil on the lining the sewing lines for the drawstrings. Do not make the topmost one, which should be under the rail. Stitch the drawstrings behind the fold line to the marked places (see Fig. 3). Insert the strips into the open ends. Close them and sew by hand.
Step 6
When the question of how to sew Roman blinds with your own hands is behind, another one arises - how to hang them on the mounting plate. Wrap the wooden block with a cloth on all sides and secure with a stapler. Wrap the finished curtain over the bar twice. Check if hanging straight. Tap the edge with a stapler Stepping back 5 cm, as well as in the center, pierce the holes in the material of the Roman shade with an awl. Do another one at a distance of 2 cm from the edge. Insert screws with a ring into all holes (see Fig. 4).
Step 7
Sew rings in the center of the drawstrings and around the edges. Pull the cord through the lower left ring, tie, secure the knot with glue. Thread the cord through all rings up and down through all four screws. Leave the end hanging loosely on the right. Pull the cords through the middle and right rows of rings in the same way (see Figure 5). Check if they are equal in length. Tie the loose ends behind the fourth ring. Cut off two of them, and hang a decorative weight on the third.
Step 8
Install the Roman shade in the window opening or just above it on the brackets. Attach the cord clamp to the wall. Pull it up to the desired height and secure the cord to the bracket.
