A leather belt can not only have a functional value, supporting clothes, but also emphasize the waist in a beneficial way. The accessory will become a style-forming part of an individual look. To make the belt truly unique and ideally suited to its owner, it is recommended to sew the belt with your own hands.
It is necessary
- - tailor's meter;
- - pins;
- - paper for patterns;
- - leather;
- - doublerin;
- - iron;
- - machine, needles and leather glue;
- - furrier or clerical knife (blade);
- - threads;
- - buckle;
- - fabric for trimming fittings;
- - scissors;
- - awl.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out the length of the future leather belt. To do this, measure the waist circumference with a tailor's meter (for example, 60 cm) and provide a margin for tightening the accessory. Then prepare a paper pattern with a length of 60x2, leaving allowances for seams about 1.5-2 cm wide on all edges. The thinner the working blade is, the less stocks can be dispensed with.
Step 2
Cut out the main leather part by laying the material on a hard, even surface and securing it along the edges with tailor pins. Use a special furrier tool. It is permissible to replace it with a sharpened office knife or an unused safety razor blade.
Step 3
Glue the leather part with a duplicate glue cloth. Cut the dublerin to the size of the belt, but do not leave seam allowances. Glue the lining to the wrong side of the leather part, carefully align the edges and iron.
Step 4
Wait until the duplicated leather fabric has completely cooled down - otherwise the dublerin may not adhere properly, and this threatens to deform the product. Fold the seam allowances on the cooled leather part by smoothing it with a fingernail or a wooden ruler (do not scratch the "face" of the material). Fix the hem with leather glue and dry at room temperature.
Step 5
Fold the leather piece in half along the center line and baste with tailor's pins, sticking them only along the line of the future stitch. Stitch the belt on a leather sewing machine using special needles. It is recommended to use the industrial triple advance model with a flat or cylindrical platform. Also popular among seamstresses are universal mechanisms such as Janome MyExcel 23XE (when using leather needles).
Step 6
Prepare a suitable belt buckle. To make the hardware look non-trivial, it can be covered with a dense canvas - to match the main product or a slightly darker shade. For sheathing on two pieces of fabric, draw out the outer and inner contours of the buckle with light dashes, folding them "face" to "face".
Step 7
Sew the details along the marked inner contour line and cut out the center piece of the canvas. Do not forget to leave a small margin for the seams (about 0.3-0.5 cm), cut the corners. Also make notches on the allowances of one of the shreds. Turn out the part, put the buckle inside. Form the hem and sew the fittings. You just have to put it into the finished leather belt and, if necessary, make holes for the fastener with an awl on the opposite side of the product.
