Munich Opera Festival is one of the oldest and largest music festivals. It has been held for over a century, and each year the program is so rich and varied that the event lasts for five weeks.
The first opera festival in Munich took place in 1875. Since then, it has been held annually in early summer, from late June to 31 July. The festival is becoming the traditional end of the opera season.
Munich is considered one of the world's opera capitals. But in Germany there are two more major opera festivals - Salzburg and Bayroi. The difference is that the last two are specialized - you select their repertoire thematically or by genre. At the Munich festival, the program is more varied.
Within the framework of the festival, both paid and free screenings are held. The main performances take place at the Bavarian National Theater. The artistic director of the festival is the director of the Bavarian State Opera. Every year, about 80 thousand visitors from Germany and other countries come to watch performances at the National Theater.
