Decoupage is a simple yet effective hand-made decor technique based on appliqué. Due to the fact that thin layers of paper are neatly glued to the surface and covered with several layers of varnish, the decoupage technique perfectly imitates painting. The advantage of decoupage is that any person can master this art without any artistic training and without any special costs. With a little care and patience, your pieces will look like they were bought at a gift shop.
It is necessary
PVA glue, a set of brushes, a decoupage card or a thin napkin, a plastic file or a transparent notebook cover, acrylic paints, acrylic varnish, a box
Instructions
Step 1
We put a decoupage card or an ordinary napkin, pattern down, on a smoothed polyethylene file, moisten with a 50% solution of PVA glue. Then smooth it all out with a large soft brush to release air bubbles. This is necessary in order to glue the napkin to the product neatly and evenly. The file acts as a wrapper, which we then carefully remove.
Step 2
Preparing the surface. The wooden box can be pre-sanded with soft sandpaper if necessary. The background prepared specially for the picture will look spectacular. For the background, it is best to use acrylic paints, which can be purchased at any art store.
Step 3
We attach the drawing along with the file to the surface of the box and smooth it with a large soft brush. The drawing should be evenly distributed on the surface of the box. Make sure that there are no wrinkles or bubbles between the surface and the pattern.
Step 4
Peel off the wrapper carefully. You need to shoot the file slowly, adjusting the picture in the right places. After you are done with this task, leave the garment to dry for a while. For reliability, you can fix the picture by smearing it again with glue.
Step 5
Make the necessary changes as desired. You may want to make a smooth transition between the picture and the background. Use the same acrylic paints for this that you used to create the background.
Step 6
Now your work is almost ready: all that remains is to cover it with varnish. Apply each layer carefully, after drying the previous one. Each layer must be dried for several hours, but a hair dryer can be used for this purpose. It is advisable to leave the finished work to dry overnight.
