Metal products with engraving on them amaze with the subtlety and grace of the decorative ornament. Artistic engraving requires not only a developed artistic taste, but also perseverance and patience. It takes a lot of time to learn how to engrave skillfully. A novice master also cannot do without a carefully prepared tool.

Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your workplace. The table where you will be engraving should be well lit. Use a light bulb with a power of at least 60 W, placing it at a distance of 50 cm from you. Place materials for work, tools and necessary equipment in a convenient place, at arm's length.
Step 2
Attach the copper alloy plate to the engraving pad. The size of the plate should be approximately 100x100 mm, the thickness of the metal should be approximately 1 mm.
Step 3
Draw a frame along the metal ruler with a steel awl. In it, draw several parallel lines at a distance of 2 mm from each other.
Step 4
Hold the chisel in your right hand with the wooden handle in the palm of your hand and the blade of the tool between your bent index finger and thumb. Place the cutter on the plate, bring its tip to the marked line and first make a hole.
Step 5
Remove the chips by smoothly moving the cutter along the drawn line. Cut through the entire frame and the parallel lines within it. Try to keep the tool from jumping out of the groove and leaving scratches on the clean metal surface.
Step 6
Learn to cut out dashed lines, then move on to making wavy and zigzag shapes, as well as circles. Cut the rounded elements of the ornament clockwise, having previously drawn them on the metal with a caliper.
Step 7
Do at least 5-7 of these training sessions. Then move on to carving floral and geometric patterns, letters and numbers. Use the same techniques for engraving more complex shapes as you would for simple parts.
Step 8
At the initial stage of mastering the skill, learn to stop the cutter at the precisely designated place. To perfect this skill, it will take at least a month of painstaking work. After consolidating the skills, proceed to the implementation of complex forms, consisting of several plans and small details. These can be monograms, monograms and vignettes.
