Artists claim that there are no pure colors in nature. Therefore, for greater realism, paints should be mixed until the shades match as much as possible. It is difficult even for experienced artists to draw the sea from nature, but with a certain skill and patience, even a painting amateur can cope with this task.
It is necessary
- - paper for watercolors, gouache, tempera and canvas or cardboard for oil
- - a set of paints (watercolor, gouache, tempera, oil)
- - a glass for clean water
- - palette
- - brushes: thin, wide of soft bristles for watercolors, gouache and tempera and hard for oils
- - pencil for paper or charcoal for canvas
- - easel (for drawing on nature)
Instructions
Step 1
Study the landscape if you are painting from life. Choose the best location for your easel. The light should not fall on the sheet or canvas and dazzle the artist. It is best to place the easel so that the sun is on the left side.
Step 2
Sketch a sketch on the sheet. This work should begin by drawing the horizon line. Mark where the sea will begin in the picture. Add all the other elements of the landscape to the drawing: the coastline, boat, rocks, etc.
Step 3
Dampen your brushes and make sure no paint is left on them. If you are using oil, a small amount of solvent should be used instead of water. Pay attention to the colors of the sea. Try to catch the darkest shade, and the lightest one (as a rule, these are glare on the surface of the water from the sun). If you are not painting the sea from nature, then it should be remembered that the sea surface rarely has blue shades. In the strip of Russia, with the exception of the tropical belt, a green tint prevails in the sea. The painters assure that when painting seascapes, one should not abandon the colors unusual for these purposes: red, yellow and even purple. The whole difficulty of writing the sea lies in the fact that the water surface has a lot of glare, which are formed from the reflection of sunlight.
Step 4
Take a palette and mix colors for the lightest shade if you are working with watercolors and tempera. When painting with gouache paint, start with the darkest shades. If you don't have a professional palette at hand, you can use a sheet of cardboard or a plastic surface in a neutral color instead. Take a thin brush and paint the resulting shade onto the paper. Mix colors in the same way until you get all the shades of the original. Realist painters have a rule - do not mix more than 3 colors at the same time, otherwise the color will turn out to be dirty.
