There are superheroes and super cars in Russia too! This was proved by Timur Bekmambetov, who decided to create a domestic blockbuster about the eternal struggle between good and evil. The Russian superhero turned out to be understandable and familiar, closer to the people than his foreign counterparts.
Autumn 2009, his father gave a black Volga GAZ-21 for his birthday to student Dima Maikov. This is not an ordinary car, albeit 1966, but the product of secret research by the Soviet army. The car is equipped with a fantastic rocket engine. At first, Dima does not know about it. He is an ordinary guy in love with fellow student Nastya. A friend of the protagonist, Max, who has a lot of money and a posh Mercedes-Benz, is also fighting for her location.
The villain of the picture is the businessman Kuptsov, he wants to get diamonds from under the tectonic plate on which Moscow stands. To do this, he needs a nanocatalyst, which is in Dima's car.
The student is trying to make money with his car, delivering flowers to customers. One day he accidentally discovers the wonderful properties of the "Volga" when Kuptsov's people tried to get it. The car took off, but Dima lost control and threw it in the building where he landed.
The hero tries to understand what is happening with the help of a photograph and a gramophone record, which he found in the glove compartment of the Volga. He finds scientists and learns from them everything about his car. At first, Dima just enjoys flying and earns good money, because he no longer depends on traffic jams.
But the ridiculous and tragic death of his father completely changes the attitude of the hero to life. Now he decides to use the incredible capabilities of the Volga to fight criminals and save people. Dima becomes a hero and an urban legend, his car gets the nickname "Black Lightning"
Meanwhile, Kuptsov also finds the developers of the Volga and forces them to make an armed version of it from an armored Mercedes-Benz. Good and evil collide on the roof of a skyscraper. But "Black Lightning" was hit by a rocket and thrown under the ice, and the nanocatalyst was torn out by Kuptsov!
Then Nastya calls Dima and confesses her love. This brings the protagonist to his senses, and he remembers the stock of nanofuel. Black Lightning flies out of ice captivity like a ballistic missile. She ends up in the lair of a villainous businessman and Dima saves Moscow by taking away the nanocatalyst.
Kuptsov takes Nastya hostage and wants to exchange the girl for the fantastic device he needs. Over Red Square, a student jumps out of a businessman's car, but the main character saves her. The enchanting battle of two flying machines in the sky over the capital ends with the victory of the "Black Lightning".
Kuptsov is doomed to fly forever in the Earth's orbit, as the fuel in the Mercedes has run out. Dima and Nastya are happy and celebrate the New Year together.
