A handmade model of a sailing ship can decorate the interior of your room, bringing an atmosphere of romance and sea voyages to it. Such a vessel can be assembled from a ready-made kit or made yourself, if you are not afraid of the inevitable difficulties associated with modeling, and are ready for painstaking hours of work.
It is necessary
- - wooden block, slats;
- - thick paper;
- - cardboard;
- - nitrocellulose glue;
- - nitroenamel;
- - spray gun;
- - dentifrice;
- - thin wire;
- - threads;
- - sandpaper;
- - a sharp knife.
Instructions
Step 1
Select the prototype of the vessel, the model of which you will assemble To do this, you can use ready-made technical descriptions and drawings, as well as independently study the design of the ship you like from drawings and photographs. Pay attention to even the smallest details, because ideally you have to create an extremely accurate copy of a sailing vessel.
Step 2
Determine the scale at which the ship model will be made. It is recommended to use a scale of 1: 500, but in each specific case, different ratios are possible, this will depend primarily on your capabilities, as well as on the actual size of the ship.
Step 3
Sketch the future model. If you do not have the artistic abilities necessary for this, then it is more convenient to go directly to the image of the future model in the form of a drawing made in three projections. Dimension the drawing based on the scale you choose. Make a list of the main and auxiliary elements of the ship's hull that you will begin to recreate. This will help you not miss out on important details that make any model realistic.
Step 4
Cut the hull of the sailboat model from a rectangular block of wood and profile it using cardboard templates. Apply the templates alternately to the hull, starting from the bow and ending with the stern. Sand the finished body with sandpaper, smoothing out all the roughness. If there are visible cracks on the case, fill them with a filler made of nitrocellulose glue and tooth powder.
Step 5
Make the deck out of thick paper or cardboard. It is advisable to use glossy paper. Paint the finished deck with nitro enamel in dark red, corresponding to the real color of the ship's red lead. Use a spray gun for painting.
Step 6
Make a bulwark out of thick paper, adjusting it to the size of the deck. Glue the bulwarks end-to-end to the deck and paint along with the hull. Paint the part of the sailboat that is under water in a brighter color that matches the color of the prototype.
Step 7
Make deck superstructures from pieces of thin plywood or foam. Cover the finished elements with colored paper. If the design of the sailboat provides for hatch covers, imitate them by sticking gauze on the cardboard.
Step 8
Make the masts of the model from wire or glue them from wooden sticks, having previously planed them to give the desired shape. Rigging make from strong harsh thread or fine wire.
Step 9
Use white paper for the sail, as the fabric on a small model will look rough and not too natural. Draw the cut lines on the paper sails with a sharp pencil. The model is ready. If you wish, you can make a simple stand for her from two wooden blocks. It is best to store your sailboat in a glass cabinet to protect it from dust and accidental damage.
