Originally in Japan, hakama was just a piece of cloth that was wrapped around the thighs, later they turned into long wide trousers with a pleat, which were traditionally worn by men in an informal setting. These pants, which look like a long skirt with slits from the waist to the thigh, seem to be a traditional element of samurai clothing, but they look very extravagant and stylish on women. The hakama can be easily sewn by yourself.
It is necessary
cloth, scissors, thread, needle or sewing machine
Instructions
Step 1
In order to sew a skirt-pants you will need about 2.5 meters of fabric. For the manufacture of hakama, dense fabrics that hold their shape well are suitable: for example, cotton, linen, denim, fabrics with the addition of synthetics. Any color can be. Although for sports, hakama is traditionally made in white or black. Women's hakama can be colorful, patterned or striped. We cut directly on the fabric, the advantage of sewing hakama is that they do not require a paper pattern. Cut out two rectangles, the length of which is the length of the leg and the width is about 115 cm, but you can make more, depending on your desire. Mark the location of the folds, but remember that traditional hakama has seven folds, five in the front and two in the back, each with a different meaning. But you can make as many folds as you like. Cut out also two ribbons for a belt 10-15 cm wide.
Step 2
Hem the bottom of the leg. Then fold in the folds to the desired depth, iron and sew at the top. Please note that the folds should be directed towards the middle of the product. Sew the parts in pairs. Sew the front parts together in the middle with a length of 40 cm. From the outer upper parts, bend a triangle 20 * 10 cm, cut off the excess fabric and hem. Next, we sew on the gusset and sew the front and back parts from the gusset to the bottom.
Step 3
Finally, it remains to sew on the belts. Fold the strip in half, sew, turn out and iron. You should have two ribbons about 5-7 cm wide, note that the front belt should be longer. Sew the belts to the top edge of the hakama, aligning the middle with the middle seam. Iron all seams and folds again. Your hakama is ready!
