The Choke metric in Counter Strike 1.6 measures the number of packets not transmitted to the server in use due to low connection speed or too much data requested by the server itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Log in to the console and enter net_graph 3 in the text box. Determine the connection statistics in the lower right corner of the window, which includes the Choke score.
Step 2
Use the d_cmdrate command to configure the Choke parameter. This command determines the number of requests for updates sent from the client computer to the game server, thus regulating the receipt by the server of information about the player's actions. Decrease the value of the selected parameter. Recommended values are:
- 25-35 - when using a modem;
- 100 - when playing in a local network;
- from 60 to 100 - if there is a dedicated line.
Step 3
Use the option to start the game with a low priority when your computer is not powerful enough. To do this, download the free online batch files Steam_Low_priority (for Steam) or counter_strike_1.6_low_priority (for no-Steam).
Step 4
Configure the game priority manually. To do this, launch Counter Strike and simultaneously press the Ctrl, Shift and Esc function keys to invoke the Windows Task Manager tool. Go to the "Processes" tab of the dialog box that opens and call the context menu of the hl.exe element by right-clicking. Specify the "Priority" item and use the "Low" option. Save the changes made by clicking the "Change priority" button in the system request window that opens.
Step 5
Check the ping of the connection in use on one of the services available on the Internet, and make sure that the value of this parameter is at least 41.465 msec.
Step 6
Check the status of antivirus applications installed on your computer, voice and IM programs, download managers and torrent clients. Please quit these apps as they are the ones that can affect Choke performance in Counter Strike 1.6.
