Love story. The title alone eloquently characterizes the general meaning and main content of any literary work written in a similar style. This is a book about love.
The action of a romance novel can unfold in any particular or fictional era, its heroes can be real characters who have left a noticeable mark in history, or our contemporaries are modest, unremarkable people who live exactly the same life as the rest of us. But at the same time they love, fight for their happiness, suffer from misunderstanding and separation, overcome all kinds of obstacles in their striving for each other. And, of course, love conquers everything! Heroes, in the end, find their happiness, to the joy of well-wishers and to the envy of enemies.
Along with really outstanding, talented love stories, there is a huge number of very mediocre, weak works of this genre. It would seem that such books are doomed to failure, their circulation will not be in demand. But the situation is exactly the opposite: they are quickly sold out. Despite all its shortcomings, such as a very weak literary level, the dominance of monotonous, stamped plot lines, a predictable outcome. What is the reason for this paradox?
You can, of course, give the following answer: such works are deliberately created by their authors for a very specific readership, consisting of people with a relatively low educational and cultural level; just like the endless primitive serials that have set their teeth on edge, which have their own loyal viewership. But this will only be part of the truth. Because it is not uncommon for highly educated people to read very weak love stories with pleasure, who cannot be suspected of a lack of culture and good taste.
Most likely, the reason is that a love story, even written at a low level, is an excellent way to forget, at least for a while, about the surrounding reality, about troubles and problems both in personal life and at work. The reader, plunging into this romantic world, is distracted from the harsh and sometimes very unattractive everyday life. So I want to believe that even in our calculating and cynical time, not everything is bought and sold, that there is still room for sincere, deep feelings, and two loving hearts will surely unite, despite all the obstacles and difficulties. And when a love story ends with a "happy ending", my soul involuntarily warms up. And their own problems and troubles no longer seem so sad.
