Artists, fashion designers and architects are constantly dealing with body proportions. To reliably depict a person, you need to correctly transfer his dimensions to the canvas. If a designer wants to create a successful dress, then he must take into account the peculiarities of the figure.
It is necessary
Measuring tape, sheet of paper, pen
Instructions
Step 1
All proportions of the human body are expressed in relation to the height or width of individual parts of the body. Depending on race and physique, they may differ from each other. Ideal proportions were determined by the ancient Greek sculptor Polycletus. Take a measuring tape and measure your height. This distance is equal to the length of outstretched arms or 24 palms.
Step 2
Divide your height by 10. The result is proportional to the length of the hand and the length of the face. The distance of one third of the face, in turn, is identical to the length of the ear and the distance from the chin to the tip of the nose, and from the hairline to the eyebrows.
Step 3
Divide your height by 8. The result is proportional to the length of the head and the distance from the elbow to the armpit.
Step 4
Divide your height by 7. The result is proportional to the length of the foot. The same distance from the top of the chest to the hairline.
Step 5
Divide your height by 6. The result is proportional to the length of the head and neck.
Step 6
Divide your height by 4. This is equivalent to the length of an elbow, the size of which is six palms. The distance of four cubits is equal to the length of the stride. The same proportions are true for the distance from the crown of the head to the nipples. Likewise, the length from the toe of the foot to the kneecap and from the kneecap to the genitals is a quarter of the height.
Step 7
Divide your height by 3. The result is proportional to the distance from the crown to the waist.
Step 8
Measure your neck circumference. The shin will have the same width. Multiplying the result by two, you get the waist circumference, which, in turn, will be identical to the width of the hip and should not be more than half the height.
Step 9
Measure around your waist and hips. The ideal ratio is considered to be 0, 7. More precisely, from 0, 6 to 0, 7. This ratio was used by Rubens for the statue "Nude". Venus de Milo has the same parameters.
