The most accessible material for the creative embodiment of the fantasies of a novice sculptor is paper. Even a child is able to glue a volumetric figure out of it. In Japan, this hobby has long turned into an art and is called "origami". But there is another way to add volume to paper - papier-mâché.
It is necessary

- - PVA paste or glue;
- - any form.

Step 1
Today there are two ways to use the papier-mâché technique. If you know how to fill forms with wax, plaster or bronze, then you can easily cope with the task. The whole process differs only in the composition of the material. For the first method, tear the paper into small pieces and cover with hot water for 3 hours.
Step 2
Squeeze out excess water and knead the "dough" by adding chalk and glue (PVA or wallpaper paste) to the paper pulp. Fill the oiled form with the resulting solution and leave to dry at natural temperature for 4-5 days. Then release from the mold and color.
Step 3
The second method of making three-dimensional figures from paper is more interesting and simpler. The first thing to do is prepare the mold. You can mold it from plasticine or use inflatable figures, balls. Even an ordinary apple is perfect for the role of a shape. For papier-mâché, you can use regular newsprint or toilet paper. Carefully tear it into small pieces of 1x1 cm. The material must not be cut with a knife or scissors. Torn, uneven edges have better grip. Then lightly brush the apple with vegetable oil and spread the first layer of paper pieces on it. The second and third layers lay out paper moistened with plain water.
Step 4
Stick two rows of small pieces of paper impregnated with wallpaper glue or regular PVA on a wet layer and leave to dry for a day. Thus, one row should be glued every day for 8-10 days. To cover the entire surface without gaps, it is convenient to alternate colors. Spread one layer with yellow toilet paper, the second with blue, and the third with newspaper. The last row must be white. After applying it, leave the figurine for two days to dry completely.
Step 5
The last operation is the extraction of the form from the cocoon glued to it. If there was a ball inside, just deflate it and pull it out of the small hole. You can remove papier-mâché from an apple by simply cutting the entire structure in half with a sharp knife. Then carefully peel off the two paper hemispheres and glue them back together using the same pieces of paper. Sometimes it is useful to sandwich the casing with small pieces of gauze. This serves as an improvised reinforcement and securely holds the structure together.
Step 6
The final touch in the creative process will be painting the resulting volumetric sculpture with gouache or watercolors. You can also use acrylic paints and applique. The papier-mâché technique appeared in China 200 years BC, although the French gave the name "chewed (or torn) paper" to it. In the Middle Kingdom at that time, dolls, boxes and even helmets for warriors were made in this way.
