Toys delight modern kids in the same way as their grandparents once did. Horses are made of wood, plastic, rubber, sewn and knitted - in a word, many materials are suitable. You can make a horse out of papier-mâché, and then paint or paste over it with felt.

What do you need for papier-mâché

To make a paper horse, of course, you need a shape. The easiest way is to mold it from plasticine. In this case, sculptural plasticine is more suitable for children, since it is harder and, moreover, one-color. You will also need two types of paper - newsprint (you can replace it with napkins) and office paper. Album sheets are not very suitable, they are not flexible enough. You will also need starch paste, sandpaper, all-purpose glue, scissors, petroleum jelly (or any cheap greasy cream).

The form

Blind the shape. You can copy a toy horse, even a stylized one. Pick up paper napkins. It is better to grease the form with cream or petroleum jelly so that the paper layer is easier to separate after drying. If you use baby clay, you can do without lubrication. Make the first layer of wet napkin or newsprint. Place the scraps close to each other. It's okay if they go one on top of the other. Place the second layer on paste. He, like everyone else, is made of office paper. In total, you need to make at least 8 layers. There are two possibilities. Some papier-mâché craftsmen alternate layers planted on paste and on water. Others mold the pieces only with glue (except for the first layer). In any case, it is necessary that the thickness is approximately the same over the entire surface. Let the piece dry, then cut it in half and remove the clay. Glue the halves together with pieces of paper and dry the figurine again.

Pasting with felt

You can decorate a horse figurine in different ways. For example, paint. To do this, sand it with fine sandpaper, prime and cover with white, black, gray or brown paint. But you can paste over the figurine with cloth. Felt is ideal. He, of course, drapes badly, but he does not shaggy around the edges. To make a pattern, you need to put the horse sideways on a sheet of foil and circle it. Cut out the pattern, leaving such an allowance for each cut so that it overlaps the figure to the place of gluing. It is better if the allowance is slightly larger. Try on the mold and adjust the details. Cut out blanks from thin felt and paste over the horse. The eyes can be made from felt of a different color, and the mane and tail can be made from thick yarn or synthetic twine. The horse can be saddled with leather or cloth, harness can also be cut from leather or woven from colored wire. It will also be interesting to look at a painted horse, in which apples and a saddle are made of pieces of multi-colored felt or cloth.

Christmas horse

A Christmas horse is best made from a piece of thick felt. To do this, you need a template (for example, a profile picture of a Dymkovo horse). Trace the piece with felt. Cut the horse exactly along the contour, leaving no allowances. You can decorate it with beads, beads, make apples from sequins, etc. A thread with lurex is suitable for the mane and tail. Attach a loop - and your Christmas tree horse is ready.
