Adjusting the guitar neck is a very specific skill that not every guitarist knows. Many, in order not to harm the instrument, basically do it only in workshops.
It is necessary
- - Hex key;
- - Ruler;
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the distance between the strings and the neck. It is better to do this over the nut of the seventh fret - in this place the deflection is usually the greatest. The distance between the bass sixth string and the nut should be 3-4 millimeters. Next, pay attention to the first nut - the distance between it and the string must be at least one millimeter: otherwise, rattling will appear when playing with a fight, and the neck really needs to be adjusted.
Step 2
Ask an experienced guitarist if the neck is bent too much. Unfortunately, strings raised high above the neck will not affect the sound of the instrument in any way, and you will not be able to determine this by ear. The only problem is that playing such a guitar will require physical effort. If you are unsure of your own judgment, ask an experienced musician if the strings are being pressed hard and if so, they should be lowered to avoid problems. But, when both methods of checking (from the first and second points) give "normal results", then the bar simply does not need to be adjusted.
Step 3
Make sure the strings are not too high. If they are "tailored" to your voice, and not to a tuning fork, then there is a high probability of breaking them when adjusting the neck. Moreover, after the adjustment, it will be necessary to check whether the guitar “builds”, and tune it again, if necessary.
Step 4
Find a metal notch on the fretboard. It should be in the shape of a hexagon and located on one of the bases. If it is not on the outside, then check the inside of the guitar body - there it is placed for "aesthetic reasons" to make the instrument look more beautiful.
Step 5
Insert the correct size hex wrench and proceed with the adjustment. The process itself does not cause any difficulties: by turning the key in one direction or another, you adjust the bend of the neck. Note, however, that excessive deflection can create a crack that renders the tool unusable. Therefore, if you are probably not sure what you are doing, it is better to ask the master for the first time to tune the neck with you.
