Quilling is the art of creating three-dimensional shapes from strips of curled multi-colored paper. An openwork heart made with your own hands using this technique is a touching, original and very beautiful gift for Valentine's Day.

To create a bright and unusual gift-heart for Valentine's Day, you only need a few sheets of colored double-sided paper, PVA glue and the most ordinary toothpick.

Heart pendant

The simplest manufacture of a gift heart is based on twisting two elements out of paper, called "drop" in the quilling technique. In order to make a "drop", you need a strip of red or pink paper 5-7 mm wide and of any length. The size of the future craft will depend on the length of the strip.

A strip of paper is tightly wrapped around a toothpick on a special tool for rolling paper or, in its absence, on a toothpick. The tip of the strip is greased with glue and fixed on the workpiece. The paper spiral is slightly squeezed with your fingers, giving it an elongated drop shape, the spirals inside the resulting module are gently straightened with the sharp tip of a toothpick.

To form a heart, you need two drop modules of the same size. Both blanks are greased with glue in a narrow part, connected and placed on a support made of soft material, fixed with tailor's needles for better adhesion. A small round spiral is made from a short paper strip and glued in the center of the finished heart. In the future, a decorative chain or cord is threaded through the spiral to get a beautiful pendant or use it as an interior decoration.

Openwork heart

A lacy graceful heart is obtained using a more complex quilling technique. A ring is glued from a red paper strip 15-20 cm long, which is shaped into a heart, making small folds in the center of the workpiece.

A long strip of paper with a toothpick begins to twist into a small spiral, making no more than 3 turns. After that, the toothpick is taken out, 1, 5-2 cm away from the spiral and a small spiral is formed again. In this way, the strip is twisted until it ends. The number of blanks will depend on the size of the heart frame.

A strip of paper, curled in a spiral, is coated with PVA glue on the side where there are no curls, and carefully glued to the inside of the frame. The frame is filled until there is no free space inside it and a lace airy heart is formed.

Heart of several modules

A heart made of modules of different shapes and different colors looks very beautiful. The main frame in the shape of a heart is made of drop-shaped modules of light green or light blue color. The outline of the heart is drawn on a sheet of paper and used as a guide when gluing paper blanks - "drops".

A pink paper flower made of five “drops” is glued to one of the upper edges of the heart, the rest of the inner space of the heart is filled with spirals and curls of red color, tightly adjacent to each other. To make curls, you need a strip of paper folded in half, the edges of which are alternately twisted into spirals and allow them to unwind a little. The spirals can be twisted both outward and inward of the strip. The finished heart is coated on top with PVA glue, which, after drying, gives the product some rigidity. If desired, the craft can be decorated with beads, rhinestones or beads.
