The top hat is a European men's headdress, which is a tall flat-top hat that was in great demand in the 19th century. Nowadays, it is worn by English equestrians at the races, as a tribute to tradition, and is also widely used by magicians as an attribute of performance. There are also decorative top hats for brides or as part of a carnival costume.
It is necessary
Thick cardboard, scissors, stationery knife, pencil, stapler, tape, glue, compasses, fabric, tape, beads, decorative stones, pins, threads, needle, superglue
Instructions
Step 1
Let's conditionally divide the hat into 3 parts: the brim, the middle part and the bottom.
Cylinder bottom:
On a piece of cardboard, draw a circle with a diameter of 10 centimeters with a compass. Draw 6-8 rectangles around the edges of the circle, you will need them to attach the bottom to the middle of the hat. Cut out the resulting detail. Fold the rectangles down.
Step 2
Cylinder fields:
Draw a circle of 14 centimeters, and within this circle, a circle with a diameter of 10 centimeters. This will be the field of the hat. Also draw rectangles within a 10 centimeter diameter circle, you will need them to attach the middle part. At your discretion, the fields can be either larger or smaller. In this case, their width will be 4 centimeters. Cut out the outside and inside (everything except the rectangles!). Fold the rectangles up.
Step 3
The middle part of the cylinder:
Draw a rectangle 35 centimeters long and 8 centimeters wide. Cut out the part.
Step 4
We connect the parts of the cylinder:
We take the middle part and the bottom, we fasten the rectangles with a stapler in a circle so that the rectangle of the middle part of the hat fits the circumference of the bottom. Glue the end of the edge of the middle part with the beginning.
We take the brim of the hat. We glue the rectangles inside the middle part of the cylinder. Let the framework dry.
Step 5
Sew on the fabric:
Take the fabric you have prepared and spread it over the frame of the hat as you like, evenly or draped. Secure the fabric with pins. Now take a needle and thread and sew the fabric to the cylinder between the brim and the middle part, removing the pins one by one.
Step 6
Bend the fabric that remains sticking out at the edge of the fields inward and secure with either superglue or thread.
The inside of the cylinder can be dyed in the color of the fabric, if it is important to you.
Step 7
Decoration:
In the shop for those who sew, you can find yourself the desired decoration, it can be satin ribbons, fabric or plastic flowers, beads or decorative stones, a beautiful brooch and veil made of tulle, lace and so on.
Step 8
Secure the cylinder with hairpins and bobbins on your head.
