In the old days, helmets protected warriors from the blows of enemies, today children and adults sometimes need to escape from harsh weather conditions. In winter, on cold days, not only legs and arms need insulation, but also the head. A helmet-hat is a very comfortable headgear, as it completely covers the back of the head, forehead, ears and neck from the cold wind at the same time.

Step 1
Choose a material for the helmet, it can be fleece, thick knitwear, fabric, leather, suede. Measure the head from eyebrows to crown, girth, determine the length of the product. Step 2
Sew the first model from fleece, it is a very elastic, warm and inexpensive material that does not require special processing. Make a quilted hat. Place the pattern on the fabric folded in half, take into account the seam allowances (about a centimeter). When cutting, find the shared direction of the fabric: pull the fleece in different directions, in the shared direction the material is almost not stretched. Baste or apply small quilting lines (preferably diagonally, in diamonds).
Step 3
Fold the wedges of the top of the hat right side in and stitch. Iron the seam allowances immediately. Sew other seams in the same way. Quilting the entire piece by hand and gently over the pattern. Tuck and finish the edges, try on.
Step 4
Try to sew a simple model based on a female hood. Make a "box" pattern, where the back of the head and sides will be longer, wider. Add two rectangular pieces to secure the neck closure. In one, cut the holes for the buttons, sew the buttons on the other. You can sew such hats for both your child and yourself. The fleece hoodie for mom and baby will replace the need for scarves and hats.
Step 5
You can make a hat-helmet from fur and leather. Draw a model on a separate sheet, mark the combination of different textures of the material. Take pieces of fur, put the flaps of skin on the pattern, secure with overlapping pins, sweep one piece of fabric along the cut line, then cut off the excess parts and remove the pins. Cut out the details, sew them by hand. Decorate the top of the helmet with a fur pompom. An original and warm hat is ready, a helmet-hat will protect you from wind and cold.
