Older people remember the period when almost all children dreamed of becoming astronauts. The guys enthusiastically built models of spaceships, made masquerade costumes in the form of spacesuits with helmets. Today, interest in space topics among the younger generation has faded away - why not try to revive it?
Instructions
Step 1
Start making a homemade spacesuit for an astronaut's fancy dress by preparing the base. Use a balloon as such. When inflated, it should be noticeably larger than the child's head and, moreover, have a shape that is as close to spherical as possible.
Step 2
After inflating the balloon, start applying papier-mâché layer by layer on all sides. Make the first layers adjacent to the ball out of plain paper - it is denser, and use newspapers for the subsequent ones. Stop when the thickness of the walls of the future helmet is several millimeters.
Step 3
Leave it to dry for a few days. When it is completely dry, pierce the balloon with a needle directly through the papier-mâché layer and it will burst. Take a model knife and carefully, so as not to crush the resulting sphere, cut a round hole from the bottom for the head, and in the front - for the face. Make sure the helmet is easy to put on and take off.
Step 4
Now craft the protective glass that all real space helmets have. Cut it out of a plastic bottle and glue it down. But remember that a toy helmet, unlike a real one, is contraindicated in tightness! Therefore, drill many holes with a diameter of several millimeters around the perimeter of the glass.
Step 5
Now the finished product needs to be painted. Real astronaut helmets are silver. This is necessary to prevent them from heating up by the sun's rays. But you cannot paint a toy helmet with silver spray paint, since it is poisonous. Better use a bright white gouache for this. Allow the paint to dry completely before using the finished product for a performance or astronaut game. You can additionally decorate the helmet with felt-tip pens or the same gouache: draw fake screws, make inscriptions, and paste it over with a soft cloth inside (without blocking the ventilation holes) to make it more comfortable to wear.
